We Have Decided…

January 20, 2009

jackblack1After seeing a spike in our guests’ interest in skin care in the last couple of months – we started some serious research.  The search was on to find the all around best men’s skin care line.  You see, at Mark Matthew, it’s all about the best. When you come in for a facial, we want you to know that you’re getting the best facial – using the best products. Furthermore, when we recommend products to you; we want to make the best recommendations, so you see the results at home.

Therefore, we did our homework, we requested samples, test-drove many different lines and after some serious deliberations came to the conclusion that Jack Black is the best all-around men’s skin care line.

So, now we want to show you how good Jack Black really is. So through the end of February make an appointment for a facial and receive 10% off on the service and any Jack Black products you purchase.

Another Lesson for Gentlemen

October 28, 2008

Throughout 2008 we will present little (sometimes unknown) facts about how to be a gentleman. While we are working towards it, we don’t claim to be the authority on the topic. However, Mr. John Bridges literally wrote the book How To Be A Gentleman. For this lesson we quote Mr. Bridges’s from his book in regards to some real life scenarios about going to dinner:

“If a gentleman has not made a dinner reservation, he accepts the fact that he will have to wait in the bar.”

“A gentleman does not talk with his mouth full.”

“When a gentleman has finished eating, he places his knife and his fork, cross-crossed, on his plate. He never places a piece of dirty flatware back on the table.”

“A gentleman never salts his food before tasting it. He would never insult that cook in that way.”

“In a restaurant a gentleman observes the established dress code. If he is not sure if a jacket is required, he asks ahead of time. If he has invited other gentlemen to dinner, he lets them know if a jacket is necessary or not.”

Introducing the Gentlemen’s Refinery

September 24, 2008

A week will not go by at Mark Matthew without us receiving a phone call or email from a company that is trying to get their hot new grooming products on to our shelves and in the hands of our guests and members. We lend our ears to all and accept samples and really try every sample we receive. However, nearly all samples don’t meet our criteria (hence the limited lines we stock on our shelves).

When a company called Gentlemens Refinery sent us their samples – we were very pleased. By using their pre-shave oil, shaving cream and after shave we experienced an unrivaled shave. The quality of their products sold us.  With certified organic ingredients you will be pleased with the results as well. You can learn more about the Gentlemens Refinery at www.thegr.com.

Lessons for the Discerning Gentleman: Lesson #7

August 18, 2008

Throughout 2008 we will present little (sometimes unknown) facts about how to be a gentleman. While we are working towards it, we don’t claim to be the authority on the topic. However, Mr. John Bridges literally wrote the book How To Be A Gentleman. For lesson #7 we quote Mr. Bridges’s from his book in regards to some real life scenarios about going to dinner:

- “A gentleman knows when it is all right to eat the garnish.”

- “When a gentleman has an unpleasant time at a restaurant, he does not badger the wait staff. He lodges his complaint with the management. Unless he is a glutton for punishment, he does not go back to that restaurant.”

- “After business hours, a gentleman does not carry his cellular phone into a restaurant.”

- “If a gentleman is on a diet, he does not talk about it at the table.”

Lessons for the Discerning Gentleman: Lesson #6

July 22, 2008

We are a grooming club for fine gentlemen and throughout 2008 we will present little (sometimes unknown) facts about how to be a gentleman. While we are working towards it, we don’t claim to be the authority on the topic. However, Mr. John Bridges literally wrote the book How To Be A Gentleman. For lesson #6 we quote Mr. Bridges’s from his book in regards to some real life scenarios:

- “When a gentleman wears a vest, he leaves the bottom button undone.”

- “When a gentleman outgrows his clothes, he gives them away to charity. He does not pretend that someday he will lose weight. When, and if, he does lose weight, he certainly will not want to celebrate by wearing out-of-date clothes.”

- “When necessary, a gentleman has his shoes resoled.”

-”A gentleman never wears the same pair of blue jeans two days in a row.”

- “A gentleman’s pants are always cuffed except for his blue jeans and his formal trousers.”

-”A gentleman never has creases ironed into the legs of his jeans.”

Citysearch editors also select their top choice. This year Mark Matthew was voted #1 for Manscaping in Los Angeles. June 25, 2008

- “A gentleman feels no necessity to wear socks after Memorial Day – at least in casual situations…”

- “If a gentleman is given to wearing outlandish hats – such as a deerstalker or a Russian sable cap with ear flaps – he understands that he will probably attract attention.”

- “Although a gentleman usually takes his shirts to a laundry, he also knows how to use an iron and a can of spray starch.”

- “A gentleman owns at least one pair of black lace-up shoes.”
